Young guns lead the way in this year’s Flounder Open. A high percentage of the 77 anglers headed to the Lymington end of the Seawall, which has produced the winner over the last few year. However this year was not the same as the majority of fish caught including the winning fish came from the other end of the wall.
Local angler Stewart Humm won the event and £500 with 2 flounders for a total weight of 1.165kg. The heaviest flounder prize of £250 was won by Steve Moore with a 660g flounder, closely followed by Paul Fields with 655g.
The 2013 winner Leo Chamberlain was the top junior and managed 6th overall with his 550g flounder.
1st Stewart Humm 1.165kg, 2nd Steve Moore 660g, 3rd Paul Fields 655g, 4th Lee Molyneux 610g, 5th Malcolm Stote 595g, 6th Leo Chamberlain 550g, 7th Roland Blomfield 390g
Next years Flounder Open is Sunday 7th January 2018.
cant we have the weights in pounds and ounces instead of metric, we are out of the EU now thank god. Bring back pounds and ounces, and bring back the birch while we are at it.
Also lets have 5 or 6 hours fishing next year not 3 hours, what was the thinking behind that?
The weighing was done in metric as the scales used were more accurate.
The choice to only have 3 hours was due to it being the Monday, not wishing to start to early or finish to late but also attract more anglers especially juniors. The process worked although less anglers caught but that might have something to do with the majority fishing Lymington end, who knows…that is fishing.
The consensus for next year’s flounder open is to extend the time as well as a disabled section at the start of Lymington wall but this has yet to be confirmed.
