The Mini Beach League is under way, and Match 1 gave us a result worth talking about. Scott Miguel took the win, on what was his very first match.
Scott finished on 226cm, well clear of the field. That included a decent 46cm bass, which is always a good fish to see come in during a winter match. Not a bad way to start your match career. Well done, Scott!![]()
Rory Lancaster pushed hard to take a section win and second overall on 149cm. Pete Chamberlain was third on 104cm. I managed to sneak in just behind him on 101cm, and John Hitchiner made up the top five on 96cm.
Those last three places were separated by only eight centimetres. A single decent fish could have changed the order, and that's what keeps these matches interesting.![]()
Here is the full result list from match one.![]()
Scott Miguel – 226cm
Rory Lancaster – 149cm
Pete Chamberlain – 104cm
Garry Mann – 101cm
John Hitchiner – 96cm
Chris Ellis - 62cm
Charlie Nash - 57cm
Paul Watson - 50cm
Sam Croker - 44cm
Dave Beale - 42cm
Tom Short - 38cm
Derek Slack - 37cm
Phil Etheridge - 37cm![]()
Six anglers went home with a clean scorecard: Glenn Short, John Wardropper, Richie Couzons, Malcolm Stote, James Hounsome and Twig. Every one of us has been there, and it's all part of winter beach fishing. Nobody is getting stick for it. You turned up, you fished, and you'll have a better chance next time.![]()
The matches are fished in sections making the league harder to win so we expect it to go down to the last match. Each angler drops their worst result or missed match if they didn’t make them all. ![]()
This was Match 1 of 4, so there's plenty still to play for. The scores from each match build through the series, and with the gaps this close in places, it's all to fight for. Our next match is Wednesday 28th October

Thinking of joining in? We have space. You don't need to have fished a match before. Scott hadn't, and he won the first one. Pop into the shop, have a chat, and I'll tell you how it works and get you booked on.![]()
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a great evening.
