Don’t be put off by the budget price! This is a very accomplished range of rods that punch above their weight when it comes to casting and handling fish. These 2 piece rods are finished in a natural matt black carbon with black whipping around the eyes. The ‘Duplon’ handle is fitted with a woven carbon mesh effect screw down reel seat. A word of warning though, the reel seat is quite narrow and will not accommodate some reels, although I have no problems when using a ‘4000’ size Shimano, Rovex or any Drennan reel.
Drennan does not give a casting weight for these rods, although produces test curves at 1.25 lb, 1.75lb and 2.25 lbs equating to 25grams, 40grams and 55grams as approximate maximum casting weights.
My own personal rod is the 9ft 2.25lb version, and I have no difficulty at all casting 14g up to 35 metres, as well as a range of lures up to 55g.
Just to show you how versatile this rod is, we’ve sold several to Carp anglers who use them as ‘Stalking’ rods, landing fish of over 25lbs. Pike anglers also speak very highly of them and then I’ve caught my own personal best on the 9ft rod; a 22lb Barracuda.
On the plus side:- A versatile well made range of rods at a budget price, equally at home spinning for Trout, Pike and Bass or stalking Carp.
On the down side:- A narrow reel seat and single leg eyes that are slightly vulnerable to damage when in the rod bag so it’s worth investing in a rod tube.
